Who We Are – What We Do
Cardiovascular prevention and health promotion are fields that are progressing and evolving. The Hadassah Pollin Center is at the forefront of development and implementation in the field of health promotion. We are creating supportive environments that promote positive health behaviors, working to change default behaviors to those that promote health and wellness. a
We maximize the sustainability of our programs by following the socio-ecological model, which mandates simultaneous interventions on multiple levels: the individual, interpersonal, community, organizational, and policy. The Pollin Center reaches the individual through gender-appropriate multi-disciplinary cardiac care in our clinic, the interpersonal through social marketing, the community through our community-based interventions, the organizational through our workplace programs and our health care provider training program. Every aspect of our work is research-based and carefully evaluated. Impact is reinforced by partnering with individuals, grass-root organizations, government entities and everything in between.a
Some of our diverse 5778 community partners include: * Jerusalem municipality * Efshari Bari-the Ministry of Health * Jerusalemites Choose Health * Jerusalem Neighborhood Community Leaders * Local (Jerusalem) government health units * Bishvilaych (a NGO that promotes health among ultra-orthodox women) * regular and special education schools in the Ultra-orthodox community * D-Cure (NGO that promotes care of diabetes) * schools in the Arab community * Naamat, WIZO, * Israeli Civil Service Commission *Israel Cancer Association * Israel Lung and Tuberculosis Association * University of Zurich (senior cardiologist, Dr. Susanna Gargo). a
In addition to continuation and expansion of these partnerships, additional alliances are in place to begin this year, including: the Golda Meir Mashav “Carmel” International Training Center (in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), the Briah Foundation and a new anonymous funding partner. a
We are working diligently to expand our support base and to recruit business partners to implement women’s heart-health promotion programs. In this newsletter we will expand upon our 5778 accomplishments in three programs, Ambassadors in the Work Place; Diabetes Prevention for East Jerusalem Women (culturally adapted from the American Diabetes Prevention Program) and health promotion coordinator training for community center employees.a
