By the end of this year, the Hadassah Heart Institute will move to its new location on the third floor of the Davidson Building. Cardiology will occupy the entire floor, over 50,000 square feet! a

Cardiology Department

The Cardiology department will expand to 33 patients, with 11 double rooms and 11 single rooms. When Hadassah Women did the initial planning for the Davidson Tower, they had planned for only single rooms.  When Israeli patients were surveyed, however, it turns out that they preferred double rooms, rather than being alone.  The Cardiology Department will be able to accommodate both preferences!!! Each room contains a T.V, safe, closet, dining table, audio system, arm chair for the patient and a guest bed.  These rooms look more like hotel rooms than hospital rooms!a

There are two comfortable solaria for families, one with hot water, a refrigerator, a microwave, a television and other facilities to make the hospital stay as easy as possible , and a special room dedicated to family counseling.   There are accommodations to enable families to observe the Sabbath.a

There is a large main nursing station and smaller satellite nursing stations, to enable the staff to be close to the patients.  The medication room is state of the art. In addition there is space for echocardiography and other cardiac testing on the cardiac floor, to maximize patient comfort.  There will be two rooms for the on call staff, so that they can be available immediately for any emergency. a

Cardiac Intensive Care Unit

The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Hadassah was the first Cardiac Intensive Care Unit in the Middle East. After 50 years, the CICU will now expand to 11 rooms and once again will be the leading unit in the Middle East.  Each patient will have a room with unsurpassed equipment for treatment and monitoring, including the most sophisticated computer systems.  The on-call doctor will sleep in the unit, and there is direct access to the catheterization rooms. This enables a quick transition for patients in critical condition. The unit also has room for on on-site manager and an office for the head nurse, so that administrative staff can work effectively.  We have made sure that there is a special room for meeting with families.a

Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology

The old interventional unit had two moderately-sized procedure rooms and a very small procedure room used to implant pacemakers.  The imaging system was 15 years old. The control room, which served all three procedures simultaneously, was crowded and uncomfortable.a

The new interventional unit has four capacious rooms, each 700 square feet, with the most advanced scanning and support systems.  From state-of-the-art imaging to complex ablations to the most innovative procedures in structural heart disease, these rooms are fully equipped and ready!a

The new, large control room will make the work environment more comfortable and more efficient.a

In addition, there is a large multi-media conference room for medical case discussions and procedure planning, observing live catheterization procedures, and broadcasting to medical conferences in Israel and abroad.a

The Interventional Recovery Room will now be a free-standing unit, with its own medication room and workstation.  The eight recovery beds are fully equipped with top-of-the-line monitoring and lots of room for family members.   And there is a private room for families of patients for consultations with the medical staff after the catheterization procedure.a

Summary

We are thrilled about the move to our new space and most grateful to the Milstein family, and all of our donors, for making this move possible.  Whereas we provided the best possible care under challenging conditions, we will now have the optimal infrastructural support to be able to push the envelope even further.a
