The Diagnostic Cardiology Unit
Congratulations to Prof. Ronen Beeri, the new director of the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit.a
Prof. Beeri brings with him a new vision of cardiac diagnostics.a
A few words from Prof. Beeri:a
Cardiac imaging techniques are evolving at a very rapid pace. If only a few years ago, basic echocardiography with Doppler was the staple of cardiac diagnosis, today other imaging modalities, such as cardiac MRI, cardiac CT scan, and cardiac nuclear and molecular imaging, carve a growing portion of diagnostic processes in cardiology. There is a growing need for experts who are proficient in all these techniques and can aid physicians in the determination of which is the best technique to answer a specific question. Furthermore, the rapid increase in invasive cardiac procedures that depend heavily on cardiac imaging and especially on echocardiography (“interventional echo”) pushes us to deepen our knowledge about anatomy and physiology of cardiac valves and associated structures. This knowledge is much improved by cross-fertilization from other imaging modalities. Complementing this approach is the use of physiological challenges, such as different types of stress tests, to tease-out subtle problems which may only appear under stress. We have united our expertise in these different cardiac diagnostic techniques into one unit, with a multi-media consultation room dedicated to all techniques together, a “one stop shop”. This concept is increasingly supported by international organizations such as the European Association of Cardiac Imaging and has been implemented in Hadassah for the first time in Israel.a
